Two held over Deepavali 'kolam' vandalism at Klang hospital

KUALA LUMPUR: Two suspects have been remanded to assist police investigations into a viral video of a man walking over and vandalising a Deepavali 'kolam' (a decorative rice motif).

The duo were arrested last night after they went to the Klang police station. Their three-day remand starts today.

Klang Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner S. Vijaya Rao said both suspects, who are in their 20s and 30s, were employees of a private hospital.

"The suspects work at the hospital and their motives are  under investigation."

The case, he said, was being investigated for causing disharmony or disunity after a man lodged a report at the Bandar Baru Klang  station.

In the  video, the man, wearing a blue baju Melayu, a songkok and sampin, is seen walking over a kolam in what looks like the lobby of the hospital and vandalising it with his feet.

Another person, who was recording the incident, was heard laughing and uttering the word "vandalism".

KPJ Klang Specialist Hospital, whose logo was seen on a Deepavali banner in the video, said it was made aware of the video, allegedly depicting one of its staff members displaying "unprofessional behaviour".

"We have launched an investigation into the video and action will be taken if our staff member is involved.

"KPJ Klang is committed to the highest level of professionalism."
