Police arrest married couple, woman and seize almost 11kg of drugs

IPOH: Police arrested three people, including a married couple, and seized 10.71kg of drugs worth RM88,917.90 in Jelapang here on Sunday.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said police acted on a tip-off to arrest the couple, aged 27 and 30, and the wife's sister, aged 19, in front of a house.

He said checks on a car parked in the house's garage led to police recovering drugs believed to be heroin weighing 10.71kg.

"Police also seized equipment believed to be used to pack the drugs, as well as jewellery, a lorry, car and motorcycle in the 3pm raid," he said in a statement today.

Yusri said the couple tested positive for morphine and the husband, who works as a lorry driver, had a criminal record.

"Our investigation found that the syndicate had been trafficking in drugs since September last year. The drugs seized were meant for the local market in Perak."

He said the couple had been remanded for six days, while the wife's sister has been remanded for three days beginning yesterday to facilitate investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
