KUALA LUMPUR: The prosecution will request a joint trial for the corruption charges involving Parti Pribumi Malaysia Segambut division deputy chief Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Farah Yasmin Salleh said the prosecution is expected to file an application for all five corruption charges involving the Jana Wibawa scandal to be heard before Sessions Court Judge Suzana Hussin.
Adam Radlan is facing two charges for soliciting and accepting RM2 million in bribes before Judge Azura Alwi, and three charges for accepting RM2.6 million in graft before Suzana.
Farah Yasmin stated that the prosecution would require a minimum of two weeks to file the application.
"We have already handed over a list of 20 witnesses who are expected to testify in the trial to the defence team," she said during a case management today.
Suzana then fixed 15 days starting May next year to hear the three corruption charges against Adam Radlan.
The dates are May 27 to May 29 (three days), June 10 to June 12 (three days), July 9 to July 11 (three days), July 22 to July 24 (three days), Aug 5 to Aug 7 (three days).
The court also fixed Oct 31 this year for mention to allow the prosecution to file their joint trial application.
Counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah appeared for the accused.
On Feb 21, the 42-year-old businessman was charged with soliciting and accepting bribes of RM500,000 and between 3.5 per cent and seven per cent of a RM47.8 million road works project in connection with the Jana Wibawa programme.
On Feb 22, he was charged again at the Shah Alam Sessions Court with two counts of accepting over RM4 million in bribes from two individuals in relation to Jana Wibawa programme.
On Feb 28, Adam Radlan was charged at the Sessions Court here with soliciting RM2 million in bribe from Lian Tian Chuan as an inducement for him to help Nepturis Sdn Bhd in securing a project related to Jana Wibawa programme.
All of Adam Radlan's graft charges were each framed under Section 16(a)(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and punishable under Section 24 of the same act, which carries up to 20 years in jail and a fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
He claimed trial for all charges.
