Police probe discovery of firearm, ammunition at Pantai Robina

BUTTERWORTH: Police are probing the discovery of a pistol and live ammunition at Pantai Robina here this morning.

Police were alerted to the discovery by a man at about 4.30am, saying he had found a suspicious package while fishing near the shoreline.

State police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said the witness reported finding a plastic box wrapped in plastic that contained a pistol, a magazine with 10 live rounds, and several other types of live ammunition.

"Police responded promptly to investigate the scene.

"They seized the items, which include a handgun with a damaged serial number, multiple magazines with live ammunition, and a variety of 9mm bullets from different manufacturers, including S&B Luger, R-P Luger, and Thai Arms.

"Currently, the suspect responsible for the abandoned weapon remains unidentified, and police are actively working to track down any leads related to this case," he said today.

Investigation is classified under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960, both of which deal with unlawful possession and the illegal use of firearms.

"Police assured the public that they are fully committed to tackling violent crime and ensuring the safety and security of the region.

"They have also appealed for anyone with information regarding this case or any other criminal activities to contact the Penang Criminal Investigation Department at 04-2221624 or any nearby police station," he added.
