Private company manager loses RM6.1mil in fraudulent investment scam

KUALA LUMPUR: A 64-year-old private company manager fell victim to a fraudulent investment scheme, losing a staggering RM6,118,500 in the process.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the victim was lured by an online advertisement on Facebook promoting an investment opportunity under the name "K-33 Investors Club".

"After clicking on the link, the victim was redirected to a WhatsApp group where a person identifying himself as 'Professor Rahmond Goh' introduced the investment and provided further details.

"The victim followed the investment for about two weeks, during which the victim was encouraged to register as a new investor on a platform called "Digzac.com'.

"Over this period, the victim made nine separate transactions, transferring RM6,118,500 to five different bank accounts.

"After completing all transactions, the victim was told they had accrued a profit of nearly RM28.9 million on the platform," he said in a statement today.

However, when attempting to withdraw the profits, the victim was informed that several tax payments were required before the victim could access earnings.

Suspecting a scam, the victim reported the case.

Hussein said the Selangor Commercial Crime Investigation Department has opened an investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

He urged the public to be cautious of fraudulent investment offers on social media platforms that promise unreasonable returns, especially those linked to unapproved financial or investment applications.

"Anyone who suspects suspicious calls or activities is advised to contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 for verification, advice, or to file complaints."
