Remand extended for influencer who posted threatening post on disabled man's assault

KEMAMAN: The remand on a social media influencer who allegedly posted threatening statements on social media regarding the assault of a disabled man here, has been extended for two days.

Session Court Judge Wan Suhaila Mohd granted the extension until Wednesday to assist with police investigations.

Earlier, the 36-year-old suspect arrived at the court at 10.30am escorted by police officers.

The suspect is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or services.

He was arrested after police received a report about a social media post, believed to be made by the influencer, that contained threatening statements which could cause public unrest in relation to the case of the assault on the disabled man at the Padang Astaka Chukai Farmers' Market on Jan 17.

Acting Kemaman police chief DSP Wan Muhamad Wan Ja'afar said the 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Segamat, Johor, around 6.55am on Sunday.

Ahmad Nor Al Faizan Jusoh, a 47-year-old mentally disabled man, was beaten by several individuals at the market after his motorcycle collided with a food stall, causing the food to spill.

It is believed that the victim was assaulted and kicked by several individuals, including vendors and buyers at the market.

Following the incident, the police arrested six men to assist with the investigation.
