[UPDATED] Selangor police to use undercover officers to combat drugs at concerts

SHAH ALAM: Police will deploy undercover officers among concert-goers to curb drug sales and abuse at concerts in Selangor.

State police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said these officers will gather intelligence, monitor activities and take action if drug-related offences were detected.

"These are among measures proposed for future concerts in the states," he said today.

The move follows the death of four individuals at the PinkFish Countdown concert on New Year's Eve.

Hussein added that police were also reviewing audience capacity limits for concert venues.

"This is to avoid overcrowding. We will discuss this with local authorities and concert organisers soon to finalise the requirements for future events," he said, adding that these stricter measures aimed to curb the sale and abuse of drugs at concerts.

On investigations into the PinkFish concert, Hussein said two of the three suspects arrested for selling ecstasy were charged in court on Jan 7 and 9.

"They were charged under Section 12(2) and 15(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

"The third suspect was released on police bail."
