Suspect nabbed after parang attack on Singaporean man

KLUANG: A Singaporean man was injured in a parang attack in Kampung Tengah here early yesterday.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said today a 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene 20 minutes after the attack, which occurred at 5.50am.

The suspect has two criminal records and five drug offences.

A urine test came back positive for methamphetamine.

A close-circuit television recording of the alleged attack went viral.

The footage showed two men wearing balaclavas, and armed with metal rods and possibly a parang, damaging a car outside a house.

A third suspect is believed to have been waiting in a getaway vehicle.

Hearing the commotion, three men from the household armed themselves with rods and confronted the attackers.

After a struggle, one suspect managed to flee, while another attempted to run but fell.

Bahrin said suspect has been remanded for four days until Feb 3. Police are tracking two more suspects.

"The motive behind the attack is under investigation," Bahrin said.
