PM gives thanks to media, secretariat at Beijing Belt & Road Forum

BEIJING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has put up a note of appreciation for the Malaysians who worked behind-the-scenes at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing on May 14 and 15.

In his Facebook posts late yesterday, Najib thanked the Malaysian media corps and members of the delegation secretariat for their efforts in helping make the country's participation in the highest-level dialogue on the Belt and Road initiative a success.

The forum, opened by Xi Jinping on Sunday, was conceptualised by the Chinese president in 2013. Dubbed as China’s “project of the century” it aims to facilitate economic and cultural exchange involving more half the world through a land and sea route called the One Belt, One Road Initiative (OBOR).

On the media, Najib said many did not know the challenges they faced when on assignment.

"They have to be at the venue very much earlier and leave later than everyone else, sometimes running while carrying heavy equipment. All this for good photos, and speedy and accurate reporting.

"I would like to thank all members of the media involved in covering this working visit to China."

Najib also congratulated the delegation secretariat for working tirelessly to make his visit a success.

"I know all of you work around the clock, and despite that, you produced quality output and supported the delegation. Keep up the good work!"
