Youths urged to become Malaysian Red Crescent Society volunteers

KUALA LUMPUR: Youths are urged to become volunteers for the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) due to the insufficient number of young volunteers.

Kuala Lumpur MCRS chairman Datuk Dr Noordin Abd Razak said the society required a young workforce during emergencies as well as to disseminate first aid knowledge to other youths.

“The busy schedule of youths dampens their interest to join the society. Nevertheless, through campaigns and social activities, we are currently providing exposure on MCRS and attracting youths with the incentives gained as its volunteers.

“For instance, through its “First Aider In Every Home” programme which has been carried out for more than five years, volunteers are taught first aid knowledge that is useful during emergency cases, enabling them to help themselves and their families,” he said.

According to Noordin, currently there were 6,000 members registered under Kuala Lumpur MCRS which consisted of school students and volunteers.

He told this to reporters when officiating Kuala Lumpur MCRS” new double-storey office that was contributed by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, at Taman Seri Rampai, here today. –- BERNAMA
