LANGKAWI: AirAsia, today welcomed its inaugural flight from Shenzhen to Langkawi with 89 per cent load factor.
Flight AK 1713 from the Chinese city was greeted with a water canon salute on its arrival at the Langkawi International Airport.
It was received by Datuk Azizan Noordin, Chief Executive Officer, Langkawi Development Authority (LADA).
The new route with three times weekly direct flights marks AirAsia’s third international route from Langkawi besides Singapore and Guangzhou, and seventh route from Langkawi besides Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Baru, Kuching, Singapore, and Guangzhou.
“We are pleased to welcome the inaugural flight from Shenzhen to Langkawi this morning. We have flown over 1 million guests into Langkawi this year, and we anticipate the number of inbound guests will continue to grow even further with this new route,” said AirAsia Berhad Chief Executive Officer Aireen Omar.
She said AirAsia was also working closely with Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) to establish Langkawi as an international hub and promote the beautiful island as a top holiday destination for China visitors.
