Authorities looking at closing down remaining flood relief centre in Sabah

PAPAR: The authorities are looking at closing down today, the only remaining flood relief centre - Dewan Penampang Baru in Kimanis after the flood situation continued to show improvement.

Floodwaters struck the west coast of the state two days ago.

As of 9am this morning, 45 families comprising 119 villagers from three villages remained.

They are from Kampung Penampang Baru, Kg Lingan Baru and Kg Mendugi.

"Weather is cloudy at present. And water level on roads leading to the villages have subsided, while main roads (in this district) have not been cut off.

"If good weather continues we will suggest to district natural disaster committee to send back the flood victims to their homes," said state Civil Defence Department in a statement.
