KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia believes it has already done its best to resolve the issue of the upside-down Indonesian flag printed in the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games (KL2017) souvenir book.
In addition to issuing a formal apology, Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the Malaysian Organising Committee for the Games (MASOC) has also reprinted and replaced the old version of the book.
"Malaysia has already officially apologised, and so have I. We have also recalled all the books and replaced them with new ones," said Khairy.
"We have already done what we can to resolve the issue. However, we are not able to control the behaviour of the supporters of other countries."
Khairy was responding to reports that a number of Indonesians had burned the ‘Jalur Gemilang’ in protest over the upside-down Indonesian flag issue.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo was quoted as saying that he has already accepted Malaysia's apology and expressed hope that the Indonesian public would not overreact to the issue.
