iGuru urges all tahfiz institutions to comply with the quality standards

SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Islamic Teachers Association (iGuru) urges all parties involved in the development process of tahfiz institutions to comply with the recommended quality standards, to avoid more incidents from recurring in the future.

Its president, Mohd Azizee Hasan said, all tahfiz institutions need to register with the federal or state government as well as to get construction approval which complies with the regulation set by the authorities.

“The safety plan is also equally important which must also be done according to the standards set by the Fire and Rescue Department.

iGuru views this incident seriously, as as it wasn’t the first incident involving tahfiz schools in the country. At times, something happens for the same repeated factors,” he said.

“Although efforts to establish Islamic institutions such as tahfiz schools are a noble effort which should be supported by all parties, the operators too must play their part by following the standards which must also be thoroughly examined from various aspects from time to time. We hope this incident will not be the reason to taint the good names of the tahfiz institutions,” he said.

Mohd Azizee added, in view of the latest incident which killed 21 students and two teachers from the Tahfiz Darul Quran Ittifaqiyah, Jalan Keramat Unjung, Kuala Lumpur last Thursday, iGuru has come up with three proposals to avoid such misfortune in the future.

“First, any parties who wish to build a tahfiz institution must be fully responsible for the safety of students, teachers and the building as well as the quality of the syllabus.

We also urge all tahfiz schools to undergo transparent and continuous monitoring process by the government besides providing sufficient funds so that tahfiz schools can provide quality services and meet the standards set by the authorities,” he said.

On another note, he also urged all parties not to speculate on the cause of fire in the latest incident.

“Let the authorities do their work and complete the thorough investigation on this incident,” he said.
