MACC tells 3 Rela men to lodge report on alleged offer of RM10,000 by 'Datuk Seri' to drop case over assault

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) has urged the three People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) members to lodge report that they had been offered cash to drop their case against a “Datuk Seri” over an assault incident.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki said: "If it is true that the attacker offered money to close the case, then we urge them to quickly lodge a report to facilitate an investigation."

Rela director-general Zulkifli Abidin said the trio was expected to lodge a report with MACC tomorrow.

"I have advised them to lodge the report with MACC regarding their allegation that the Datuk Seri, via his middleman, has offered RM10,000 each to withdraw their police report on the case.

"An officer from the integrity unit of the Home Ministry has called me to obtain more information on the allegation.

“His advice is for the three victims to lodge a report with MACC," he said when contacted by the New Straits Times, today.

Selangor police Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said, following a press conference by Rela at Wisma MCA on the allegation on Sunday, police had advised Zulkifli to lodge a report.

The press conference was attended by Zulkifli, Ampang Rela platoon head Ho Hoong Keong, and MCA public service and complaints department chief Datuk Seri Michael Chong, who is also a Rela honorary commissioner.

"Police will record a statement from Zulkifli, Ho, and the three victims to facilitate investigations into the assault incident," said Fadzil.

Ho and Zulkifli claimed today that the middleman had offered RM10,000 to each of the victims, who rejected the money.

Instead, the victims have demanded justice and wished to leave the case to the police to investigate and take action on the matter.
