Kuantan, new district in Pahang to be hit by floods

KUANTAN: Kuantan became the new district in Pahang to be hit by floods, with 49 victims from 14 families evacuated to two relief centres this afternoon.

This brought an increase in the total number of evacuees to 1,564 people from 406 families, which contrasted with the 1,452 victims from 375 families in three districts as at 10am.

Pahang Civil Defence Force Colonel Zainal Yusoff said that out of the Kuantan evacuees, 29 people from nine families were sheltered at Sri Damai public hall, while another 20 victims from five families were placed at Kampung Pahang public hall.

"This caused the overall flood evacuees in the state to increase to 1,564 people from 406 families sheltered at 17 relief centres as at 5pm today.

"Pekan is still the district with the highest number of evacuees at 1,223 people from 312 families placed at 10 relief centres," he said.

He said the 10 relief centres in Pekan were SK Sinar Mutiara with 375 victims from 94 families; SK Permatang Keledang (322 people from 81 families); SMK Peramu Jaya (136 people from 35 families); SK Temai (93 people from 24 families) and Pulau Manis flood shelter (75 people from 22 families).

"Other relief centres are Kampung Lamir relief centre with 55 people from eight families; SK Sri Biram (73 people from 21 families); Tanjung Pulai Multipurpose Hall (39 people from 14 families); SK Seri Terentang (46 people from 9 families), SK Acheh (9 people from two families)," he said.

In Rompin, Zainal said there was a slight increase to 283 victims from 77 families sheltered at four relief centres.

"The four relief centres are Balai Raya Setajam with 119 people from 30 families; Leban Chondong public hall (71 people from 22 families), SK Tekek (63 people from 15 families), and Desa Wawasan Kampung Pianggu (31 people from 10 families).

"In Raub, there is only one relief centre opened which is Masjid Jamek Kuala Semantan which shelters nine victims from three family," he said.
