Work to bring down Batu Tiga toll plaza begins

SHAH ALAM: The work to bring down the Batu Tiga toll plaza near here commenced tonight.

A check by the New Straits Times Press found that two toll counter’s in the left from the Kuala Lumpur direction facing Shah Alam was dismantled.

Before this, several quarters had urged the toll plaza’s to be dismantled following several fatal accidents.

On Sunday, two motorists were killed when they lost control of their car and slammed into the toll plaza barrier in a 12.55am incident.

The fatal accident is the second at the location following a previous accident on Jan 15m, which saw two friends killed.

In PARIT BUNTAR, Bernama said the Works Ministry expects to complete demolition works on the Batu Tiga toll plaza in Shah Alam by March 28.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the ministry was informed by PLUS Malaysia Berhad the transfer process of the assets involving toll equipment and signage, among others, was currently carried out before the demolition began.

“PLUS is in the process of transferring its assets from the area and upon completion, the demolition of the physical structure will be carried out.

“We have also been informed that the traffic management programmes will be carried out to ensure that traffic flow is not disrupted during the demolition work,” he saidd at a press conference after officiating the ground- breaking ceremony of the Parit Buntar Hospital here today.

The toll at the Batu Tiga and Sg Rasau toll was abolished from midnight of Jan 1.

Last October, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, at the tabling of Budget 2018, announced the abolishment of toll collections at the two plazas.
