Initiatives to benefit Mindef civilian and armed forces personnel

KUALA LUMPUR: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein today announced seven new initiatives for the benefit of Defence Ministry (Mindef) civilian personnel and two initiatives for Armed Forces (ATM) personnel and veterans.

He announced the initiatives in his 2018 Defence Minister’s Council Address at Wisma Perwira, here today.

Hishammuddin said the seven initiatives for Mindef civilian personnel are:

- 500 out of the 3,500 units of Rumah Wilayah Persekutuan (RUMAwip) being constructed in Sg Besi will be set aside for them;

- Monthly BestBuy Carnival with the cooperation of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) offering basic necessities at lower than market prices;

- Upgrading PUSPANITA at Mindef to include transit homes, contribution of multi-purpose vehicle to Civilian Personnel Welfare Society and Puspanita as well as RM30,000 contribution to mobilise the association’s activities;

- Special Education Assistance for Mindef's civilian personnel children who achieved excellent results in the Form Three Assessment examination (PT3) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM). They will receive RM100 monthly allowance for PT3 and RM150 per month for SPM, for a year.

- Increase in the special quota of Haj pilgrims from 100 to 200. With this initiative, 200 Mindef civilians can perform Hajj without waiting for their turn.

- Empower education services. Ensuring Mindef's civilian personnel’s children at 38 schools in armed forces camps nationwide enjoy full educatioal benefits, including more convenient school transportation.

- Medical treatment at armed forces Hospital and Polyclinic’.

He said the two initiative for armed forces personnel and veterans are:

- The creation of a special Amanah Saham Bumiputera Zulu (ASB-Z) financing scheme worth RM14,000 to RM140,000 for qualified members with a five and ten year financing periods; and,

- Establishment of a Special Fund for the Armed Forces Family Welfare Agency (BAKAT), and an allocation of RM815,000 which will benefit 65,000 BAKAT members nationwide.

Hishammuddin said the announcement of the initiatives was part of the 6th MINDEF Roadmap agenda for 2018, which will be implemented.

“This initiative is proof that we listen to the grouses and needs of Mindef civilian personnel and armed forces personnel and are aware of their needs and welfare.

“It (the initiatives) is also as a sign of appreciation to their sacrifices in Mindef and ATM and hopefully it will be well received.

Hishammuddin, these initiatives cover the six core directions of Mindef involving: Welfare, Housing, Preparedness, Defence, Diplomacy and the Health thrust.

"This initiative is not a mere empty promise because last year, in Mindef’s 6 Core Direction, almost all the agenda’s were implemented,”he said.
