KL City Hall cancels projects worth RM1 billion

KUALA LUMPUR: The City Hall confirmed that it has cancelled 10 projects worth RM1 billion to reduce its expenditure.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz said the projects scrapped were those that had yet to be tendered or taken off.

He denied that the projects were earmarked under the Greater KL-Klang Valley development which was initiated by the then Barisan Nasional (BN) federal administration.

“Among the projects are for the construction of a road, parking area and sports clubs,” Amin said when contacted after his meeting with the Council of Eminent Persons at Ilham Tower today.

Earlier, the mayor had declined to elaborate on the matter when met by a crowd of reporters upon exiting the building.

Amin said the decision was made by the city hall’s top management.

“The projects were scrapped because we need to save on expenditure. We have looked into the matter from all angles.

“Furthermore, we already have enough projects to put in place this year.”

Amin also confirmed that he was summoned by the council to brief on the projects’ status.

Council member Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz when met earlier at the end of the meeting had declined to comment on projects’ cancellation.
