KUALA LUMPUR: Social activist Hishamuddin Rais has denied publishing an allegedly seditious article criticising Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V.
Hishamuddin’s lawyer, Zaid Malek, said his client has lodged a police report over the matter at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters yesterday.
He said Hishamuddin claimed that the articles, which were posted on his blog on Wednesday, were the work of hackers.
“The police have summoned Hishamuddin to record his statement. We were here (Sri Petaling police station) last night to assist the investigation and no arrest took place,” Zaid told the New Straits Times Press when contacted.
He said the interview lasted for an hour and a half.
In a statement earlier, Zaid said he accompanied Hishamuddin to the police station at about 10.30pm yesterday night.
This follows the lodging of several reports against him by non-governmental organisations claiming that the article regarding Sultan Muhammad V was seditious in nature and insulting to the King.
Checks on Hishamuddin’s blog, tukartiub.blogspot.com, revealed that the post in question had been deleted.
