Padang Rengas Umno bank account among 408 accounts frozen: Nazri

IPOH: Former Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz today confirmed that Padang Rengas Umno division bank account had been frozen.

The Padang Rengas Umno division chief said as of today, none of his bank accounts had been frozen.

“I can confirm that only Padang Rengas Umno division bank account has been frozen, all my personal accounts are not,” he said when contacted by the NSTP today here.

He said this when commenting that several individuals, politicians as well as companies including himself, were believed to have received fund from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), and that had gone viral on social media recently.

It was reported yesterday that a total of 408 bank accounts with funds totalling RM1.1 billion had been frozen by the Special Task Force investigating 1MDB.

In a statement today, the task force said the bank accounts were frozen between June 26 and 29. The bank accounts mostly belonged to individuals, political parties and non-governmental organisations (NGO).

The statement said 81 individuals and 55 companies whose accounts were frozen were believed to have received funds from 1MDB.

Last Saturday, Perak Barisan Nasional chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir confirmed that the state Umno bank account had been frozen.
