Seri Setia assemblyman's death a great loss, says Azmin

KAJANG: Seri Setia assemblyman Prof Dr Shahruddin Baharuddin’s death is a great lost for PKR, the Selangor state government and the Pakatan Harapan government.

Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also PKR deputy president, said this when met at the late Shaharuddin’s residence at Desa Pinggiran here tonight.

He said Shaharuddin was well-liked by many and was committed in executing his duties as a state exco and a party leader to push forward PKR’s reformation agenda.

“I did visit him yesterday. Although weak, he still managed to welcome me and return my handshake.

“I am saddened by his death and pray he will be placed among the blessed ones,” said Azmin, adding he had known Shaharuddin for a long time.

He added the late Seri Setia assemblyman was one of those who would churn out new ideas during the state exco meeting.

Azmin also said he would pray that Shaharuddin’s wife and children would stay strong in dealing with the loss.

Several PKR key leaders were also seen at Shaharuddin’s home to pay their last respect including Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraidah Kamaruddin, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Ir Amiruddin Hamzah, Deputy Works Minister Mohd Anuar Tahir, PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar, and PKR Communication director Fahmi Fadzil.

More than 300 people comprising relatives, fellow politicians and former students have gathered to pay their last respect.

Shaharuddin’s remains arrived at the residence about 9.45pm.

It is learned that Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah is expected to pay her last respect and meet Shaharuddin’s family on Friday.

Shaharuddin leaves behind wife Adibah Ahmad, 57, and six children, Mohd Syazwanuddin, 30; Atiqah Syairah, 29; Atiah Nadzrah, 28; Muhammad Saifuddin, 25; Muhammad Salahuddin, 23; and Ainun Syafiqah, 18; as well as a two-year-old grandson.
