Early voting for Seri Setia, Balakong by-elections tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 2,801 early voters for the Balakong and Seri Setia by-elections will cast their ballots tomorrow.

Of the total, 2,770 of them, comprise 2,597 military personnel and their spouses, as well as 173 policemen in the Seri Setia constituency, would cast their votes at Ababil multi-purpose hall, Pangkalan Udara Subang and the police SMS Complex in Shah Alam, respectively.

The centres are open from 8am to 5pm.

Meanwhile, there are 31 early voters for the Balakong state by-election, who would be casting the ballots at the Seri Kembangan Police Station staff quarters between 8am and noon.

Election Commission (EC) member Datuk Md Yusop Mansor said the early voting process would be witnessed by candidates’ polling agents at the respective constituencies.

He said local observers from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) selected by the EC would also be present to witness the process.

“For information, early ballot papers will not be counted tomorrow (Tuesday), but instead will be kept in police lock-ups.

“Counting of these ballots will be carried out on polling day on Sept 8 in batches at the polling stations set by the EC,” he said in a statement.

Both the Balakong and Seri Setia state by-elections will see straight fights, between Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Wong Siew Ki and MCA candidate Tan Chee Teong for Balakong state seat, while PH candidate Halimey Abu Bakar will be contesting against PAS candidate Dr Halimah Ali in Seri Setia.

The polling day for both by-elections falls on Saturday.
