KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has once again urged businessman Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, to return to facilitate investigations into the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Azam Baki also urged SRC International managing director Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil Nik Othman to come forward to assist investigations.
“For one, everybody now knows one thing in common which is the name Jho Low and Nik Faisal. They are both required by the MACC and the police to assist in an ongoing investigation.
“Warrants of arrest against them have been issued. An Interpol ‘Red Notice’ has also been issued for the two. Based on this, the people can see just how much these two are wanted by the two agencies, MACC and police,” he said in an interview with Bernama Radio.
On June 7, MACC issued an arrest warrant for Low to assist investigations into the strategic investment company. The same was applied to Nik Faisal.
Azam said MACC had hints as to the whereabouts of Low, but could not disclose this.
“We believe that he is possibly in (one of) two or three places. But ,let me keep this a secret and its best that they come on their on will,” he said.
Azam said the 1MDB case did not just involve Malaysia, but several other countries.
As such, the authorities were working closely with the authorities in Singapore, Switzerland and the United States, as well as the Attorney-General’s Office to coordinate its investigations.
“The US has two agencies, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice (DoJ). Recently, we also had a special meeting in Putrajaya between Sept 18 and 20.
“The meeting was to standardise investigations. We need to standardise the statements because it involves several countries. As mentioned by the AG, we have good cooperation and are progressing,” he said.
