27 evacuated as floods hit Hilir Perak

TELUK INTAN: Hilir Perak has been hit by floods, with one relief centre opened in Hilir Perak so far.

A state Disaster Management Committee Secretariat spokesman said 27 people from 10 families have so far been evacuated to the relief centre in SK Changkat Jong, as of 11.30am.

He said flooding was reported in the Changkat Jong area beginning 7am.

“The areas hit by floods so far are Kampung Batu 7, Batu 8 and Batu 9, Changkat Jong and efforts to move victims to the relief centre involve all security agencies.

“Of those moved into the centre already, there are four adult men, nine adult women, nine male children and five female childre,” he said when contacted.

The spokesman said the cause of the flooding was believed to be heavy rain all of Tuesday night and this morning, causing Sungai Bidor to burst its banks.

“The water levels are continuing to rise, but the weather has improved and we are keeping track of the situation,” he said, adding that information would be made available from time to time.
