GEORGE TOWN: The Indonesian Consulate has confirmed that three of its citizens were involved in the landslide at the Bukit Kukus paired road project site.

Its Consulate for Consul Affairs Neni Kurniati said one of the remains have been recovered.

The victim has been identified as Samsul Asman, 19.

“Two others are still feared buried under the rubbles.

“We have met the next-of-kin of Samsul to get the necessary documents for the purpose of sending his remains back.

“The next-of-kin has identified the remains. The hospital will conduct a DNA tomorrow on the victim and the next-of-kin.

“We hope they (search and rescue team) will find the other two victims, along with others,” she said when met at the Penang Hospital Forensic Unit here today.

Neni said representatives from the consulate had also met the wives of the two Indonesian victims who are still missing, at the site this afternoon.

“We are here to assist in sending Samsul’s remains back,” she said.

Meanwhile, a scene of melancholy filled the hospital’s forensic unit as next-of-kin of those killed in the rubbles came to identify their loved ones.

Samsul’s body arrived at the hospital at 6.20pm followed by Bangladeshi-national Attirul, 35, at 7pm.

Samsul’s father, Asman Ibrahim, 62, said he was shocked with the incident and that his son just started working at the construction site.

“I am shocked with his death and was only told of his death after Friday prayer. He has just started work two months ago.

“I had just arrived home in Paya Terubong and saw my wife crying before relaying the bad news to me,” he added.

Asman, who hails from Sulawesi in Indonesia, is a permanent resident (PR) card holder here.

Attirul’s friend, known as Jadir, was also at the hospital to identify the deceased.
