KUALA LUMPUR: Tapah MP Datuk Seri M Saravanan is MIC's new deputy president following the conclusion of the Barisan Nasional (BN) component party's polls yesterday.
He defeated former Perak MIC chairman Tan Sri M Ramasamy in the contest for the party's 2018 to 2021 term.
Saravanan obtained 9,391 votes to Ramasamy's 5,270.
The election results were announced by MIC election committee chairman Tan Sri G Rajoo at the party's headquarters, here, yesterday.
14,911 out of 25,536 members were eligible to vote in the party polls involving 4,256 branches nationwide.

He replaced Datuk Seri S Subramaniam who announced that he was not going to defend the post.

"I am touched with the support given and I promise to do my best in shouldering this trust.
