More Penang excos, assemblymen declare personal assets

GEORGE TOWN: Three new state executive councillors (excos) and 21 Pakatan Harapan (PH) assemblymen today declared their personal assets as of Jan 31, 2018.

The exco members are Deputy Chief Minister 1 Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman; state Public Works, Utilities and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari; and state International and Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain.

Zakiyuddin appears to be the wealthiest of the three, owning four properties worth over RM1 million, and five cars worth RM610,000.

Of the assemblymen, Kebun Bunga elected representative Jason Ong Khan Lee is the most prosperous, owning nine premises worth RM8.1 million – five of which are jointly-owned with his wife.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that other Pakatan Harapan elected representatives had made their asset declarations earlier this year.

“Independent accredited auditing firm Grant Thornton was appointed for the asset declarations, and they said that all the information and documents supplied to them were in proper order.

“The income (stated) does not include (assets owned by the politicians’) family members,” Chow said during a press conference following the morning session of the state legislative assembly sitting here, today.

“We have again fulfilled our promises. It (is) tedious to do every year, (so) we will do it every two years,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chow said that the Penang government will contribute RM81,159.63 to Tabung Harapan Malaysia.

The money is the sum total of the 10 per cent deductions of the basic monthly salaries of all 11 state executive councillors, from June to November this year.
