Two new helicopters for Fire and Rescue Department

SUBANG JAYA: The Fire and Rescue Department today received two AW189 helicopters from Agusta Westland Malaysia Sdn Bhd (AWM).

Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said the helicopters were worth RM105 million per unit.

“We dealt with the company for two years in order to obtain the assets. After getting the two assets, the Fire and Rescue Department now has nine helicopters where seven are based in Subang, and one each at Bertam (Penang) and Miri (Sarawak).

“The machines can be used domestically and internationally. At the moment, two of the helicopters that are based in Subang had been deployed to Palu, Indonesia for the earthquake victim rescue operation,” she told reporters after the Fire and Rescue Department AW189 launching ceremony, here, today.

Present were Housing and Local Government Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek and Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Mohammad Hamdan Wahid.

Meanwhile, commenting on the condition of fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, Zuraida said he was in stable condition and able to interact with others.

“Adib should not be too active. He was a victim of the situation while on duty, I am very sad over what happened,” she said.

Last week, Adib was seriously injured after being hit by a group of rioters gathered around the Sri Maha Mariamman temple, USJ, here.
