Adib is stable, able to interact with people: Zuraida

SUBANG JAYA: Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, the firefighter who was seriously injured in the recent riot incident at Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ25, Subang Jaya is reported to be in a stable condition and able to interact with people.

Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said Muhammad Adib, who is still receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN), was however advised not to be too active.

"Adib became a victim while on duty and I am very sad with what happened.

"I hope the incident does not recur ... we need to honour the work by firemen who are exposed to various risks while carrying out their duties," she said at the event to launch the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) AW189 helicopter, here today.

Also present were Housing and Local Government Ministry’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek and JBPM director-general Datuk Mohammad Hamdan Wahid.

Yesterday, NSTP reported that Muhammad Adib’s heart was no longer on the ventricular assist device.

Mohamad Hamdan said Muhammad Adib however, was still on ventilator support for breathing.

"I was told by the cardiothoracic specialist, (Datuk Dr Mohamed Izani Md Taib) that his heart was currently working without assistance.

"He no longer needs the machine for the heart. The situation is still critical but stable," she said.
