Hasan rejects Johor PKR chief post

JOHOR BARU: Pasir Gudang member of Parliament Hassan Abdul Karim has rejected his appointment as the Johor Parti Keadilan Rakyat chief effective today.

In a letter addressed to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Hassan thanked Anwar for his trust in appointing him as the Johor PKR chief.

“However, I am officially declining the appointment effective today,” said Hassan in the letter that was also forwarded to NSTP via WhatsApp.

He said would remain as a PKR member and Pasir Gudang MP and would continue to support the Pakatan Harapan government in Parliament.

“I will also continue to support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as PKR president and future Prime Minister,” said Hassan.

In the letter, Hassan said he believed that the party needed to amend its constitution regarding the appointment of state leadership council chairman.

“My selection as the state chairman has been questioned, so it is only appropriate that I resign. The new chairman needs to be chosen in a more democratic and transparent manner, which is in line with the party’s reformation principles,” said Hassan.
