GEORGE TOWN: The Mazda CX-5 SUV which plunged off the Penang Bridge early yesterday was located by search and rescue (SAR) teams this afternoon.
The vehicle was spotted at 4pm on the sea floor, about 15 metres away from the 34th pillar of the bridge.
Efforts are now underway to raise the vehicle using a crane.
“The SAR team is still carrying out works at the location the car was found.
“We will arrange for a press conference (to provide the latest developments on the situation) shortly,” said Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid.
The SUV plunged into the sea at Km4 of the bridge after being rammed into by a Toyota Vios at 2.54am on Sunday.
The Mazda CX-5 was driven by student Moey Yun Peng, 20.
The 21-year-old driver of the Toyota Vios was injured and is being treated at the Seberang Jaya Hospital.
It was reported that he tested positive for ganja.
