KUALA LUMPUR: This year’s Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (Lima ‘19) exhibition may be more than a month away, but it has already exceeded expectations.
The Defence Ministry today announced that the bookings for exhibition space at Lima ‘19 has gone past the 100 per cent mark.
At 10,519 sq m, this marks a 104 per cent booking level, with some 350 local and international companies from 29 countries.
The ministry, in a statement, said Lima ‘19 will see 12 national pavilions, namely Australia, Belarus, China, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, Slovakia, Turkey, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the United States.
“This shows that there is interest and high confidence from defence companies in working with Malaysia to strengthen the existing industry here. For the first time since its inception, Lima ‘19, the 15th edition of this exhibition, will be jointly organised by the Defence and Transport ministries, with the theme ‘Defence and Commercial, Connecting Intelligence”.
“The collaboration between the two ministries is to open more opportunities for the commercial sector and at the same time strengthen the existing aerospace and maritime sectors.
“What is even more special is that Lima ‘19 will be officiated by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, whose brainchild was the first exhibition in 1991, when he was the fourth prime minister,” the ministry said.
The exhibition, to be held March 26-30, will be held at two different locations — the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) for aerospace and Resorts World Langkawi (RWL) for maritime.
The exhibition at MIEC is only open to the public on March 29 and 30, but the RWL is open throughout.
