IGP bows out: Emotional Fuzi bids adieu to PDRM

KUALA LUMPUR: Outgoing Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun delivered an emotional speech at the handing-over ceremony for the top police post at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) at Jalan Semarak here, today.

Trying hard to maintain his composure, Fuzi mentioned the death of his wife just after he was appointed to the position, as one of the biggest challenges he has faced in life.

“I lost a wife, someone so dear and beloved. It's still fresh in my mind as I had just taken over as IGP at that time.

"I am thankful and blessed by the support of my family and friends from the force which never stopped to motivate me in moving forward.

"Without them, I would not have been able to overcome the sadness and pain, and get on my feet again. Thank you, and may Allah reward you all," he added.

Fuzi also congratulated his successor, Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador, and acting Police Family Association (Perkep) Special Branch division chairman Datin Mahizah Abdul Malik, and wished them well in carrying out their duties.

The handing-over ceremony, which was witnessed by Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, saw the signing of the handing over documents and receipt of the position by Abdul Hamid.

A former Special Branch director, Abdul Hamid handed over his duties to the new acting director police commissioner Datuk Ramli Hassan.

Fuzi expressed confidence that the police force will continue to strive further under Hamid’s leadership.

"I believe the image of the police force will flourish even more, and that Hamid will be able to add the “wow” factor.

"I congratulate him on his appointment and trust that he will carry out his duties well," he said.

Fuzi is the 11th IGP and had served over 35 years in the force.
