Malaysian teen on holiday in Australia killed in skateboarding accident

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian teenager was killed in a skateboarding accident while on holiday in Townsville in Queensland, Australia, on Saturday.

Mohammad Farhan Fudhail Mohammad Farid, 16, from Kuantan, Pahang, had been skateboarding downhill at 2.30pm when he slammed into a roadside pole in Jezzine Barracks, North Ward, Australian media reported.

The teen, who had been wearing a safety helmet, was in critical condition when paramedics arrived at the scene.

It is not yet clear at what point Mohammad Farhan Fudhail died.

His mother, known only as Natasha, told Bernama that preparations are being made to repatriate Mohammad Farhan Fudhail’s body to Malaysia.

Foreign Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob said that Wisma Putra has been in contact with Mohammad Farhan Fudhail’s family; and that the repatriation effort is being carried out by the High Commission of Malaysia in Canberra.

“The victim’s mother is still waiting for the post-mortem results.

“The body is expected to be brought back to Malaysia via Malaysia Airlines,” Muhammad Shahrul said.
