TELUK INTAN: The Housing and Local Government Ministry has urged the Ipoh City Council (MBI) to take immediate action following a soil erosion incident which caused the back portion of 10 houses at Taman Silibin Indah here to sink.
Its minister, Zuraida Kamaruddin, said there are standard operating procedures (SOPs) that need to be followed by the local authority to ensure that the incident does not recur.
"The building of retaining walls is under the purview of the Public Works Department (JKR), and we need to check if the affected area belongs to private owners or the state.
"Sometimes, these matters stop us from taking further action, but the local authority must look into this matter thoroughly and find the root issue," she told reporters after visiting Gerai Rakyat in Langkap here.
Zuraida was commenting on claims by affected residents at Taman Silibin Indah that no action was taken by the authorities following the soil erosion incident on May 14 at about 2pm.
They said the soil collapse had damaged their kitchens, and may have compromised the structural integrity of their homes.
