Two former Penang excos, MP arrive at MACC HQ

GEORGE TOWN: Two former state executive councillors and a parliamentarian arrived at the Penang Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters here, this morning.

Former Religious Affairs and Domestic Trade Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Malik Abdul Kassim arrived at 9.45am, followed by former Public Works Committee chairman Datuk Lim Hock Seng at 10am.

Their presence at the MACC office is believed to be part the graft-buster's ongoing investigation into corruption allegations involving the Penang Undersea Tunnel project.

Bukit Bendera Member of Parliament Wong Hon Wai was then seen arriving at 11am.

He told newsmen at the scene that he was there "to settle bail payments".

It is believed that the remand for ex-Penang Port Commission chairman Jeffrey Chew expires today.

The tunnel project had courted controversy in the past, especially over its RM305 million feasibility studies, as well as the nearly two-year delay in its completion.

The ambitious project consists of four components, including three road projects measuring 30km and an undersea tunnel, costing an estimated RM6.3 billion in total.
