AYER KEROH: Kompleks Seri Negeri, the Melaka state administrative centre, was immediately closed this morning after a state assemblyman is reported to have tested positive for Covid-19.
Sources claimed that the assemblyman, who had returned from Sabah last week, had visited the complex yesterday, two days after his three-day quarantine period ended.
However, the source claimed that the state Health Department had to pick up the assemblyman from his home last night after tests showed that he was Covid-19 positive.
"The assemblyman had yesterday visited Seri Negeri and even had a drink at the cafeteria.
"Upon instructions from the authorities, the complex was closed immediately. The state Fire and Rescue Department was summoned to conduct sanitisation and cleansing works throughout the whole complex," said the source.
The Fire and Rescue Department confirmed that the operation was conducted this morning.
State Fire and Rescue Department director Abu Obaidat Mohamad said the operation was done following a request from the management of the complex.
Meanwhile, state Health and Anti-Drugs exco member, Rahmad Mariman, said any formal statements would be made by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Earlier in the day, social media was abuzz with photos of firemen donning personal protective equipment (PPE) conducting sanitisation works at the Seri Negeri complex.
It is understood that a circular has since been disseminated, instructing that all state-run programmes as well as activities involving leaders and the community be postponed until further notice.
