KUALA LUMPUR: The Communications and Multimedia Ministry today assured that the Covid-19 data presented by the Health Ministry in its daily press conference is verified and accurate.
Its minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah said the government was looking into allegations questioning data authenticity as raised during a special National Security Council meeting on Covid-19 chaired by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin earlier today.
"We are looking into this serious allegation by certain parties who had raised doubts on the Covid-19 data authenticity.
"Such malicious attempt was done to deliberately cause confusion and create distrust towards the government's efforts in tackling the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Since the beginning of the pandemic, the government has ensured that the Covid-19 data collected are accurate and authentic," he said in a statement today.
Saifuddin said the ministry was working closely with the police in investigating the allegations.
"Stern actions will be taken against the culprits found to be responsible for such despicable act.
"I'm giving (my) assurance that the Covid-19 data presented on Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) and Bernama are authentic.
"Apart from this, it is also part of the public's responsibility to verify their news from official or reliable sources at all times.
"They should also ensure the news authenticity before disseminating any content with questionable validity," he said.
