KUALA LUMPUR: Students are allowed to wear normal attire to attend physical classes when schools reopen March 1.
The Education Ministry in a statement said students without school uniforms are allowed to wear appropriate, smart and decent attire to attend classes from March 1 to 26.
The instruction was made following questions from parents to the ministry on uniform attire when school reopens.
"According to the ministry's circular (Surat Pekeliling Ikhtisas) 3/1983: School Student Uniforms, it said that students must wear a uniform to attend the schooling session.
"The ministry, taking into account the current situation in the country, will allow students who have yet to obtain school uniforms to instead wear appropriate attire to school.
"The order will take effect until March 26 which is the start of the 2021 mid-term break," it said.
The ministry hoped that the order would allow all students to attend physical classes held at schools.
On Feb 19, Senior Minister (Education) Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin announced primary school students will return to classes in two groups, starting March 1.
Pre-schoolers, along with Standard 1 and Standard 2 students, will be the first group to return to school on March 1; while Standard 3 to 6 students will resume in-person classes on March 8.
Secondary school students will return in April after the end of this year's mid-term break.
