NRP will ensure service sectors operate smoothly during MCO

KUALA LUMPUR: In line with the National Recovery Plan (NRP), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has embarked on several initiatives to ensure service sectors can operate smoothly during the Movement Control Order (MCO 3.0).

MCMC, in a statement today said, the gradual opening of economic sectors direly required services to operate at optimum level while adhering to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

"The people will stay connected using essential services such as telecommunication, Internet, postal and courier services and broadcasting.

"They can capitalise on Internet connectivity for their routine activities, such as e-commerce, work-from-home (WFH) and home-based teaching and learning via online without face-to-face interactions.

"This will help the government to curb workplace-linked clusters while enhancing SOP compliance," it said.

MCMC said several programmes had been developed with collaboration from industries such as the National Digital Network (NDN), the National Courier Accelerator Plan (NCAP) to deliver goods, transforming the commission's state offices to effectively tackle service issues and establishing Community Internet Centres to facilitate connectivity for local communities and develop local economy.

MCMC said, the NCAP programme, for example, had led to a comprehensive implementation of the Parcel Delivery Network by adding more Pick-Up & Drop Off (PUDO) points nationwide.

Besides saving customers the hassle of anticipating their parcels, PUDO allows for contactless delivery service to them and prevents parcel contents from getting damaged or contaminated during the process.

"Likewise, the broadcasting sector has been allowed to operate during MCO so that people can follow the latest updates in the comfort and safety of their homes.

"In line with NRP, digitalisation will remain MCMC's primary focus to prepare a robust framework for the country's economic recovery," it added.
