Telekom Malaysia technicians rescue man's best friend

JERANTUT: It was man's best friend's lucky day, when a Telecom Malaysia technician came to its rescue from a flooded utility hole in Felda Jengka 9, near here.

The technician and his four colleagues who were on the lookout for a faulty cable, stumbled upon the canine's predicament and, despite having to immerse himself in muddy, polluted water, his swift action was praised by netizens and his deed shared on the social media platform.

Technician Mohd Saifullah Abdul Moin said the five of them were on their way to Felda Jengka 9, from Jerantut to look for damaged telephone cables in the area and along the way spotted a utility hole without its cover, which was likely stolen.

"We went down to look and were shocked to find a tired-looking dog partially submerged in water.

"We tried to put a plank so that the dog could clamber up, but the canine could not and was helpless," he said.

Finally, his colleague Muhammad Zahid Mohd Nasir mustered up enough courage to go down the utility hole and rescue the dog.

"I was feeling very sorry to see a stray dog trapped in the utility hole with his head looking up hoping for help," Zahid said.

Though he was scared and worried that the dog would bite him, however with the aid of a gunny sack from his van, he wrapped the dog's neck and pulled it out.

"It took me about half an hour to pull it out because some of the initial attempts failed because the dog was quite heavy," he said.

After the tired-looking dog rested on dry ground and its hunger sated after being fed bread by his rescuer, the furry four-legged animal trotted away.

Zahid said this was the first time he and his friend had rescued a dog and considered it as a career challenge.
