1,500 Orang Asli in Kelantan yet to be vaccinated

GUA MUSANG: About 1,500 Orang Asli mostly in Gua Musang have yet to receive their Covid-19 vaccine doses.

State Health director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said the 1,500 Orang Asli were from several settlements in the district and its surrounding areas.

"We have estimated more than 2,000 Orang Asli, aged above 18, in Gua Musang and other areas will be inoculated.

"Out of the 2,000, a total of 823 Orang Asli will receive their vaccine doses in our latest outreach programme which began today," he said when contacted.

Dr Zaini who accompanied Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah at today's programme, said the Orang Asli would get two types od Covid-19 vaccine doses.

"During the four-day outreach programme, the 823 will be given the single-dose CanSino as well as Pfizer vaccines," he said.

He added the 1,500 Orang Asli who had yet to be vaccinated, are expected to receive their doses soon.

At the programme today in Kampung Dakoh, Dr Noor Hisham took several minutes from his time to vaccinate a few Orang Asli adults.

The four-day programme which ends on Nov 10, was part of the government's efforts in curbing the Covid-19 infection.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin during his working visit to Kelantan yesterday urged the State Health Department to continue with its outreach programmes to attract locals as well as the Orang Asli to be vaccinated.
