Kelantan tables 2022 Budget with projected deficit

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan government today tabled a projected deficit budget of RM90.49 million for the year 2022.

The budget themed "Kelantan Maju Rakyat Sejahtera" was tabled by Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob at the State Assembly Sitting held at Darulnaim Complex here.

Ahmad said the deficit saw an increase of RM24.47 million from the previous year's RM66.02 million.

"Despite the deficit projection, the Kelantan government has recorded a surplus budget for four consecutive years, " he added.

In 2017, Ahmad said there was a surplus of RM38.82 million, in 2018 (RM40.46 million), in 2019 (RM445.69 million) and 2020 (RM45.44 million).

The Pasir Pekan assemblyman said there would be an allocation of RM1.51 billion under the state's 2022 Budget coupled with prudent expenditure plan.

"The expenditure plan involves six core principles —— financial transformation, driving the economy, education and religion, people's well-being as well as social protection and welfare," he added.

Ahmad said Kelantan targeted a revenue of RM991.74 million next year while the estimated operating expenditure would be RM1.08 billion, a slight reduction compared to RM1.09 billion in 2021.

He also said an allocation of RM428.3 million for development expenditure had been put aside for next year.
