ALOR STAR: Although the wedding celebration was scaled down due to Covid-19 restrictions, couples who chose to get married on the auspicious day of 22.02.22 today still had a memorable day.
Tan Foon Chuan, 45, and his bride Kathrina Thomas, 26, were delighted to have been able to register their marriage today.
"Today's date is very special. We can remember it easily although it falls on the weekday. We are very happy to have registered our wedding at the National Registration Department office in Anak Bukit," he said when met in Kota Sarang Semut.
The software engineer said he and his bride picked the date after one year of courtship.
"After one year of knowing each other, I felt today is the most auspicious day to register our marriage," he said.
Tan said he was happy that the process to register the marriage went on smoothly in line with the current Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
Kathrina is from the Kadazan-Dusun community in Ranau, Sabah.
"We met in Penang last year and I am very grateful that we finally got married on this very special date," said Katrina, who works as an assistant at a home care in Penang.
The wedded bliss was also shared by another couple, Cheung Chia Hoa, 27, and Tan Jia Li, 22.
Cheung, who hails from Kuala Kedah, said the Chinese community believed that the auspicious number associated with the date would bring good luck.
"Number '2' represents love and happiness, so 22.02.2022 is a good combination of the number to mark a new beginning for us as a married couple," he said.
