Radzi: No Education Ministry funds used for PTA meeting in Tanah Merah

KUALA LUMPUR: No funds were used from the Education Ministry for the lavish Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting in Tanah Merah, that reportedly served roast lamb and offered lucky draw prizes that included a car, motorcycles, television sets and mobile phones.

Senior Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin in a Facebook post said the event, which was criticised by Umno leaders, was funded by Tanah Merah member of parliament Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz.

"Not a single sen of the ministry's funds, either at the state Education Department, district Education Office or schools, was used to fund the PTA annual general meeting for school clusters in Tanah Merah," Radzi said.

"In fact, contribution and expenditure for the programme were from the Tanah Merah MP."

Radzi's Facebook post included screenshots of posts by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil, who highlighted the meeting.

"Don't just offer this treat only to Tanah Merah schools, do this for all public schools. Then it is only fair," Najib wrote.
