KUALA LUMPUR: A motorist had a narrow escape when his car caught fire at a petrol station in Segambut here yesterday.
A City Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said the incident happened when the driver of a Nissan Serena was at the petrol kiosk about 10.30am.
"We received a distress call at 10.33am informing us that a car had caught fire at the station.
"Firemen from the Sri Hartamas fire and rescue station rushed to the scene but the fire was already doused by the petrol station staff before the firemen arrived," he said.
He said the firemen assessed the situation and declared that the fire had started at the car's fuel tank.
"The driver was filling up his tank when it suddenly caught fire. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident," he said in a statement. He added that the car was also partially burnt at the rear.
"The cause of the fire is still under investigation," he said.
