SINTOK: Issues concerning the accommodation of some 1,000 Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) students have been resolved.
Vice chancellor Prof Dr Haim Hilman Abdullah said all the students concerned have been placed at 15 hostels available in its main campus and additional lodging facilities in the main campus here.
"We provide accommodation for a total of 17,708 students here and this includes those who have exceeded the usual four years period of study.
"We are also providing lodging for the incoming 500 students who are registering by Nov 1 after their enrolment appeal was approved," he said.
Dr Haim added that besides the 15 main hostels, the students were also being placed at additional lodging facilities which include the Sisiran Naib Canselor houses, Sisiran Sintok UUM houses, Taman Universiti UUM and university houses in the campus.
Recently, some groups claimed that there were about 1,000 UUM students who failed to get hostel facilities upon registering for their academic session.
Haim ensured UUM students that the university management would always prioritise their wellbeing so that they could focus on their studies in a conducive atmosphere.
