KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Rakyat has conveyed its condolence to the families of the Batang Kali landslide victims over their loss.
The message was conveyed by the Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul in his speech after taking the oath of office.
He called upon the families of the victims to remain strong and calm in facing their loss.
Johari also thanked all individuals and personnel involved in the rescue effort.
Muslim members of the Dewan Rakyat then recited a 'Doa', whereas non-muslim members of the lower house of Parliament observed a minute of silence.
As of now, a total of 24 victims have been confirmed dead out of a total of 94 people involved in the tragedy, where 61 victims have been rescued, while another nine are still listed as missing.
