KANGAR: State executive council (Exco) member Wan Badariah Wan Saad today hit out at the Perlis Haunted House after discovering that her name was written on a tombstone replica at the amusement park.
The state Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman stressed that it was not a matter to be joked about, seeking an apology from the park operator.
The Mata Ayer assemblywoman said she was notified on the matter by an individual who sent her a screenshot of the replica tombstone taken from a Facebook posting.
"Honestly, I am very hurt by the action by the park's operator who seemed to be promoting his business by using my name on the tombstone replica.
"The writings contained my full name, birth date, and my former school's name in the posting, which has since gone viral.
"The operator might have thought it was just a prank, but this involved racial sensitivity and the Muslim community," she told reporters at the side lines of the State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
Wan Badariah, who is also the state Women, Family and Communities, Welfare and Disaster Relief Committee chairman demanded for the haunted house operator located in Guar Jentik, Beseri, to issue a public apology.
It was learnt that her name and particulars were written on a piece of Styrofoam that was placed on the replica tombstone.
She added that while it was common for people to crack jokes or pull pranks, such action was deemed as crossing the line of Islamic teachings.
Wan Badariah said she did not know the operator personally, but did not discount the possibilities that her personal particulars were obtained from someone close to her.
"I am unsure if the park is operating legally since the state government has never endorsed or promoted the haunted house and as the state Tourism Committee chairman, I was never invited to the premises," she said.
The Perlis Haunted House is said to be operating between 8pm and midnight daily with a RM10 charge for each visitor.
